100 Good Wishes Quilt

As a mommy, I think that seriously there's nothing better in the world. I also recognize that our path to parenthood was easy compared to what others may have to go through to find their little one.

Someone that I know is waiting for a little one, but it will likely take much longer than 9 months to get here. She and her husband are pursuing adopting a baby from China. This person is going to make a great mother, I can already see it in her, and well I'm sure that everyone around her can as well.

While hanging out in blogland this morning I came acroos someone else waiting for their little one to find their way to their forever family. This person was also asking for fabric for a 100 Good Wishes Quilt. It got me thinking about my friend and something I could do for her.

To welcome and celbrate a new life, there is a tradition in the norther part of China to make a Bai Jia Bei, or 100 Good Wishes quilt. It is a custom to invite friends and family to contribute a patch of cotton and a wish for the baby. Part of the patch goes into the quilt for the little one, and the other part of the cloth can go into a memory book with the wish. The quilt contains the luck, evergy and good wishes from all the families and friends who contribute a piece of fabric.

So I have sent this friend a message and Facebooked her as well to see if she would be willing to let me take this on as a special gift to her and her husband. I will keep you updated on if she says yes!

Love the ideas behind the 100 wishes quilt...that is so beautiful! I hope your friend & her husband's dream of adopting a baby comes true! :o) My husband & I don't have children, can't...but are right now looking into organizations for sponsoring two children in other countries...To give the gifts of love, care and future to a child is joy like not other.
