So I was a little disappointed when while reading another blog someone commented that the blogger was "cheating" because of the following (which I obviously do all the time.)
I love to straight line quilt. I like the look of it and I'm really a semetrical person so it makes sense to me. I also love squares, and sashing which work with my love of lines. I'm not sure how long it will take me to make a straight line, but I've been at this for just over a year and I still can't do it. I use my walking foot, I use a guide and I still can't quite get it right.
I found the idea of using painters tape to create the guidelines for me. I find it also a lot faster to quilt because I don't have to constantly keep measuring to make sure that I'm on track. You bet that if I thought I was off even a little I would be tearing those rows out and starting again.
So . . . . is it cheating? Or is it industrious? I vote for industrious and I thank the person who passed on the idea to me. As for the person who thought it was cheating, I guess to each his own, someone of us are much more traditional and I can apprecaite that as well, it's just not for me.

I don't see how it's any different from marking your quilting pattern onto your fabric and following that. And it's no different from using a template. I think it's genius, and wish I had thought of it before I tried a straight line quilt!
I am pretty sure that the quilting police will not be coming to your house any time soon to confiscate your painters tape. Keep on making gorgeous, guilt-free straight lines.
Not cheating. Not at all.
How sad that someone would even say that! :(
industrious... so not cheating.. and yes... getting ideas from bloggers is half the fun in all this!
Definitely industrious! It's a great idea and one that I plan on using for my next quilt.
Industrious.....without a doubt. I would never cheat.
I think the tape is a great idea! Nice quilts.
Simple & clever (the tape), elegant & classic (the straight lines). Not sure how the cheating comes in? Stick with it ~ it's working beautifully for you!
