It is 50 weight which is a finer thread. I use it for piecing by machine and hand also machine quilting. It is long Egyptian cotton with a satin finish. I have a lot of colors and the great thing about it is it is a great price. The site is www.connectingthreads.com. Most of the time I have to order. I advise people to use the best they can afford. If it isn't an heirloom quilt then use what you have or can get in your area. My problem is they have closed all the stores and ordering has become my only source for threads and supplies. I use Glutterman polyester for everything. It doesn't gum up my machine like cheaper stuff does, and I prefer the look of the quilting with polyester over cotton. The cotton thread is just way to thick and doesn't blend as nicely. But that's just me!Allisonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15781848937344975326noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4146691650104641315.post-59172658450768913222009-10-05T22:48:38.938-04:002009-10-05T22:48:38.938-04:00Hey Doddy!

I used to feel snobbish about using only 100% cotton on all my quilts, but when I was using my clunker machine, the cotton thread would break all the time. I found that poly comes in so many more colors and it's slightly stronger, especially for free-motion. :)Arielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00750600616551358760noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4146691650104641315.post-68922683539921223402009-10-04T16:29:45.405-04:002009-10-04T16:29:45.405-04:00I am no expert but I'm a Gutterman girl whenev...I am no expert but I'm a Gutterman girl whenever I can be. The trouble with the cotton threads is the colour variety is less. But the quality is worth the little tiny bit you pay extra.CitricSugarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17580076318545974487noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4146691650104641315.post-22601048982978054522009-10-01T20:41:38.603-04:002009-10-01T20:41:38.603-04:00I use 100% cotton for everything. I'm new to all this myself so I'm learning right along with you and her quilts are gorgeous so I'll most likely use her tips. I'm posting the link to her page. If it doesn't work, you can just check Oh Fransson.com and under the how to section she talks about what she quilts with.

http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2009/03/quilt-along-14-freemotion-quilting.htmlMichaelahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11913293660959008803noreply@blogger.com
